At Corporate Chefs, we know that our people and their unique passions make us who we are. Rose Shertick, our Front of House Manager, not only brings dedication and creativity to her role in Corporate Dining, but also carries a unique drive that extends well beyond her work with us. Raised with a love for food and hospitality, Rose began her formal culinary journey in high school, drawn initially to becoming a veterinarian before culinary arts stole her heart. Her early days involved learning to bake with her grandmother and being mentored by her vocational schoolteachers, whom she fondly remembers for their lasting impact on her life and career. Outside the culinary world, Rose is an avid and competitive disc golfer, deeply involved in a sport that combines skill, strategy, and community—qualities she brings into every part of her life.
Rose was awarded a scholarship to the New England Culinary Institute in Vermont, where she thrived in an intimate, farm-to-table focused environment. Her first-year internship brought her to Nantucket, where she experienced the culinary world firsthand and learned the importance of teamwork and adaptability. Her career then led her to a mom-and-pop restaurant in Massachusetts, where she quickly rose to become the Pastry Chef, embracing the freedom of creating from scratch and honing her skills over six years. After several years in local restaurant kitchens, Rose joined Corporate Chefs in 2019 and quickly established herself as a leader who builds connections and fosters team spirit.
Her time at Corporate Chefs has been filled with growth and new challenges. After a brief hiatus during the pandemic, Rose returned in 2021 as Front of House Manager at a premier account located in McLean, Virginia working alongside General Manager Sue Krynicki, her mentor, and forming a deep professional bond. Rose has moved back to Bedford, Massachusetts, and is still working with the same premier client, simply in a different location. She appreciates being closer to family while leading the front-of-house team with a renewed sense of purpose, sharing what she’s learned.
Yet, it’s Rose’s life outside work that adds a unique dimension to her story. In 2016, she discovered disc golf through a friend, and the sport soon became a core part of her life. Disc golf is a blend of traditional golf and ultimate frisbee, where players throw discs toward metal baskets in as few throws as possible. Courses vary widely, often winding through wooded terrain, open fields, and hilly landscapes, each hole presenting new challenges in terms of distance, elevation, and obstacles.
Since joining the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) as player #87094, Rose has honed her skills and competes with her team, the Billy Goats, in the off-season of Competitive PDGA events, based at Flatrock Disc Golf Course. The team’s setup mirrors the community spirit Rose values in her work. They host three home matches a season, complete with potluck lunches to share food and stories before heading out to the course. The Billy Goats also travel to compete on away courses, adding variety and challenge to each season.
Disc golf has introduced Rose to a diverse network of players, each bringing their unique backgrounds and experiences. The sport has seen rapid growth, and Rose has met both newcomers and veteran players with PDGA numbers in the low hundreds. “It’s incredible to see so many different people coming together, from lifelong players to those just starting,” Rose says. “Disc golf is more than a game; it’s a community, and I love seeing how this sport brings people together.”
Rose’s commitment to disc golf reflects the same values she brings to Corporate Chefs: teamwork, dedication, and a sense of camaraderie. As Front of House Manager, she truly fosters a welcoming atmosphere for guests and colleagues alike, drawing on her experiences both on the course and in the kitchen. For Rose, the sport has enriched her life, introducing her to lifelong friends and allowing her to explore her competitive spirit in new ways.
Here, Rose is pictured with her mentor, Sue Krynicki. Working together has been a journey that has sparked a professional respect for one another, yet a friendship that will also last. Last year, Rose “dressed up” as Sue for Halloween, a testament to their special relationship. Rose shares, “Having been able to work with our premier Client in both Virginia and Massachusetts, it has given me a unique experience to work with these 3 wonderful individuals. They have each been with Corporate Chefs for over 20 years and have so much knowledge and experience to share. If I had not transferred and moved, I never would have meet any of them.”
Rose’s story reminds us that the people of Corporate Chefs bring talents, passions, and perspectives that make us more than just a company—we’re a community. We’re proud to celebrate Rose’s achievements and are grateful for the unique perspective she brings, both on and off the course. Her journey is a powerful reminder that our people make Corporate Chefs a vibrant, inspiring place to work, and we look forward to seeing where Rose’s journey takes her next.
